چکیده

Routing overlays have the potential to circumvent Internet pathologies to construct faster or more reliable paths. We suggest that overlay routing protocols have yet to become ubiquitous because they do not incorporate mechanisms for finding and negotiating with mutually advantageous peers: nodes in the overlay that can benefit equally from each other. We show that mutually advantageous peers exist in the Internet and that one-hop detour routing is sufficient for a latencyreducing overlay. We then simulate such an overlay construction process to show that it is efficient and scalable.

PeerWise provides significant academic benefits to biological science students across diverse learning tasks, but with minimal instructor intervention.

We demonstrate that student engagement with PeerWise, an online tool that allows students to author and answer multiple-choice questions (MCQs), is associated with enhanced academic performance across diverse assessment types on a second year Genetics course. Benefits were consistent over three course deliveries, with differential benefits bestowed on groups of different prior ability. A rating...

Formative student-authored question bank: perceptions, question quality and association with summative performance

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY There are few studies on the value of authoring questions as a study method, the quality of the questions produced by students and student perceptions of student-authored question banks. Here we evaluate PeerWise, a widely used and free online resource that allows students to author, answer and discuss multiple-choice questions. STUDY DESIGN We introduced two undergraduat...

Symbiotic Relationships in Internet Routing Overlays

We propose to construct routing overlay networks using the following principle: that overlay edges should be based on mutual advantage between pairs of hosts. Upon this principle, we design, implement, and evaluate PeerWise, a latency-reducing overlay network. To show the feasibility of PeerWise, we must show first that mutual advantage exists in the Internet: perhaps contrary to expectation, t...
